I've got a 7681 Super Axe and am experiencing fret buzz on the high E. When I finger the 1st and 12th fret the string is laying on the frets. I was thinking the truss rod needs to be loosened. Opened up the panel on the back where the neck meets the body. How do I adjust the truss rod?? Does it look like a previous owner welded on a part to the original to make it "easier"? I took a needle nose and gave it a 1/8th counterclockwise turn, but there was really no tension to speak of and I don't think any neck adjustment was made. Thanks for any assistance!

From what I recall it more than 1/4 turn to make an adjustment to the truss rod, probably due to the gear box assuming it has the Baldwin truss rod mechanism. One turn on the drive equals much less than 1 turn of the truss rod.
It is pretty easy to make a wrench. Take a brass, aluminum or whatever metal of choice rod and put a slot in the end with a hacksaw, drummel tool or whatever tool of choice ) then put a 90 degree bend in the rod and you are all set.

Thanks antik. I'll try giving it another turn. Does it seem weird that a) I can turn the drive by gripping it with needle nose pliers and b) there's no real tension to speak of?
Thanks again.
