FS: Samick JZ203 with T.W. Doyle ... PRICE DROP, and Bigsby available

  1. Remember this thread?

Well, its going on the block! with the current Club I have most of what i need covered, and I'm strategizing to complement the rest.

Events have transpired to accelerate that strategy, so here we go!

For reasons I wont reveal, I'm now able to include the Bigsby if you want it! with Epiphone hardshell Jumbo case, fits perfect.

Now at $750 w/case and Bigsby, etc, paypal, shipped. $700 if you dont want the Bigsby.

Getting ready to put it on Ebay as we speak.

  2. bump with an update and price drop!

  3. bumping again...

  4. I said this on TGP but I've been a friend of Tom Doyle's for more than 20 yrs. (we have no commercial connection ) and his pickups are just fantastic, the most natural, acoustic sounding set I've heard (among other things they do), I would think they'd sound great on a guitar like this. I have no connection w/ Stefan but I know Tom's work and it is superb (luthiery, restoration, pickups, etc.).

    Cheers, Jon

  5. Thanks Jon!

Youre right, theres nothing these pickups won't do --- so responsive and transparent -- that character coupled with its astonishingly versatile wiring scheme, you can dial in a huge range of tones. They are a great match for this guitar, which plays very well and has a nice classic archtop jazz tone unplugged.

I do have a feeling I'll miss this guitar when it goes out the door, but fact is I dont need this much versatility - and there's other things on the plate i'm trying to acquire.

Some rehearsal clips with it: http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/3505807

low impedance, very clean and responsive, quite organic, and really pick up the acousticness of the box. Six way notch filter circuit gives a varying degrees of mid emphasis, so you can dial up warm, vintage, woody jazz tones to shimmery sparkly bite. Volume boost and bass cut switches. Also features a unique second direct out low impedance jack for recording.

I contacted Mr Doyle about the system, he's what he wrote back..

"As far as the two mini toggles , one is connected to a transformer selecting a 50 ohm or a 250 ohm tap. 50 being thickest and most powerful level. The 250 tap cuts out mid range and creates a sweeter sound. The rotary s/w is a notch filter . Again , this info is only valid if someone hasn't tampered with the system. It is a unusual design, being half high and half low Impedance. Hope this helps, but without being sure it wasn't touched or tampered with I can only give you answers based on what I think is in your guitar.

There is a volume drop on the choke s/w which is normal somewhat like a Telecaster world. There is no activity in this system , it is strictly passive. It starts out basically at full frequency response and it subtracts as you add different switches . That's the concept. The Rotary if it's in the guitar correctly facing down is full hum bucking, as you turn it counter clockwise it shunts the front pickup to the capacitors between them. So in a sense, it becomes non hum bucked at that selection. "

Other details: 17" lower bout, , 3 1/2 depth, 25 1/2 scale, spruce top --- probably not a solid top, cant tell cause of the binding, though some claim these had solid tops. TOM bridge. Qparts art deco-ish knobs with turquoise inset just to snazz it up a little :)

Prices as in 1st post (sigh). My overhwelming preference is for me to keep the Bigsby. Better for me, cheaper for you :)

  6. bumping with a price adjustment -- 600 plus shipping, no Bigs --- 650 plus shipping w/Bigs.

Or make me a close offer :)

I have 2 very cool Gretsches incoming and i need the room :)

  7. Can you tell me what Bigs you put on it, I want to order one for mine but have no idea which one to get.... 8-o Thanks.....hope you got it sold. it does take up alot of room :P

  8. hi, i bought this bigs used off a fellow GDPer, who in turn had it on the stereo 6120 reissue.

AFAIK, thats the only model this particular Bigs comes on.. Its a statrionary Chet, but i dont know what makes it different from other stationary Chets currently in production, or if it's the only stationary Chet in production or not. I did replace the handle with the longer one.

officially the Bigsby number is Bigsby B6GBVWST Vibrato Tailpiece, Gold. Angela's instruments lists i as a part, though incorrectly says it s a Travis arm.

    Hope that helps!

  9. thanks mustafa....

  10. Nice looking piece Mustafa. I had a Samick jazz box for several years before the Tal came along and was quite happy with it's tonality and playability. I had a couple of Gibson PAFs in mine and they fit perfectly too (for those wondering about that). Excellent price for a fine "working man's" instrument...8-)

  11. thanks General! and a bump to refresh anyones memory...

  12. bump... would love to move it. im out of space, lol.

I'll do 600 + shipping gifted INCLUDING the bigs if you let me swap handles/brackets ( i.e. ill put on a standard Bigs swivel handle for you, i keep the chet stationary).
