Allen “Chihuahua”

1

This is the first series of Chihuahua's (EL34 / 6L6). The newer ones are 6L6/6V6, etc.

Disclaimer: I am the second owner of the amp, I was told when I bought it that it was built by David Allen, turns out that it was aN Allen kit, a very neat and professional build but not built by him so I lowered the price to reflect that.

Allen Chihuahua (Blonde tolex) with Celestion Gold 10in. speaker. Very little use, no tears or dings. One small circular spot on side panel- see photo, a couple tiny exterior scuffs but not noticeable. Has a JAN Phillips NOS 6L6WGB (for 10watts) and I believe a NOS 12AX7 in V.1 preamp slot.

"Dimed" this thing is a beast, a real Champ killer - very good overdrive and reverb!

Here's some info

Chihuahua The Allen Chihuahua ("chi-wah-wah") takes the home practice amp up to a whole new level. A Class A single-ended tube amp using an EL34 for 6 watts or a 6L6 for 10 watts.All-tube spring reverb! The reverb recovery has an extra gain stage which is very welcome for great overdriven tones. The RAW control unscoops the mids for a more 5F1 tweed type tone. It has a respectable amount of clean headroom and bottom end authority on bass notes for an amp this size/power. At only 17" by 17" and 24 lbs., it is the perfect grab n' go practice amp. I've added an additional filtering stage to get rid of the typical "single-ended background hum" normally produced by these little amps so it is great for recording, too! All top notch components throughout including a aluminum chassis, U.S. made power transformer, Heyboer output transformer, Accutronics 9" reverb tank, Switchcraft jacks, Carling switches, Mallory M150 tone capacitors, etc.

Asking $770.00 shipped. (Reduced 100.00)

Dang that is tempting... as some know I am totally into Champ chassis builds, and at 17" wide I am guess that is what this is. Verb stuffed on to Champ chassis not often seen, and right in the 10w sweet spot.

Question is tho for the Tiny Lost Tribe of Clean Players -- where distortion is a Bad and Unwanted Thing ... how does it do clean?

With the 6L6 and the RAW control down it stays clean to about half-way then some nice breakup.

I had one of these and sold it, but wish I hadn't. These are great little amps!

It turns out that it’s actually a David Allan kit (not built by him) Still a highly professional build with zero issues but I did lower the price to reflect that it is a kit built amp. I think it was built by an amp tech not a hobbyist, just saying.
