Selling my White Penguin

Here is my 2006 Penguin in dead mint condition. Case looks like brand new as well. Plays absolutely great and is setup with 10-46 Daddarios. All the gold is still flawless. I've used this guitar very sparingly since I have quite a few. I basicly used it when I played a wedding or new years eve party. I did take the gold armrest off because i didn't want to tarnish it. It will be included and looks brand new still.

Recently had to get a nice acoustic (Taylor GC8 with ES System) for my gigs, so I have to let one of my Gretsches go to cover the cost.

Gretsch only offers the 6128-57 Duojet and the 6134 White Penguin for a left hander with Dynasonic pickups.

This is as good as it gets fella's and these are impossible to find (lefty)

$2250 shipped anywhere in the US 48 States

I lowered the price, but still no takers. Guess its going back in the closet. I'm sure there will be a lefty out there drooling for a rare penguin sometime down the road.

$2150 is as low as I will go.

its definately a buyers market right now. i dont absolutely need the money, so if it doesnt sell, i know that it will be worth more down the road. it would be nice to sell it, but i definately dont want to take a big loss on it.

back to the closet it goes.

If things weren't quite so economically shaky at the moment, I would certainly go for it, but that little annoying adult in me keeps reminding me of the bills that keep pouring in ;-D

i tried to work a deal locally on a trade for a lefty EE duojet. i was willing to take the loss on it for my penguin because of the rarety of this particular 6128EE. i dont think i ever seen a firebird red hardtail. this one is in mint condition. still has plastic on the pickguard. i've seen only one red EE and it had a bigsby. the guy really dont want to part with it unless i have $2349 cash. to me, the market price is probably worth $1500-1700, but the rarety is the reason he wants so much.

heck... i only paid $1190 for my green EE hardtail. but it is really an awesome guitar and will never part with it. would be cool to make the trade and get matching bookend guitars.

I really love your Penguin, Jay. I've seen you on YouTube with it (impressive stuff, for sure) and it's kind of a shame it's not gettin' the love from you it once did. Unfortunately, I don't play lefty...otherwise I'd have considered buying it from you.

From my experiences, lefty EE Jets are not all that rare, but as they haven't made any more for some three and a half years now, a red hardtail with nickel hardware in practically new condition is quite a find.

As with anything else, the value of a guitar is what someone is willing to pay for it. If you were to play it regularly and enjoy it, it's probably worth the money...an EE Jet being played regularly would certainly be worth more to me than a White Penguin that was simply gathering dust in the closet. I love my EE Jet...it's not going anywhere.

Hey Jay,

I'd say you're a lot righter about the value of that EE than Jerry is. He loves his stuff a little too much. Must be well off and can afford to keep it.

My message to the Jerrys of the world: the damned thing is rare because there's little demand for it! It's left-handed! Only 5% of guitarists play left-handed! There's no reason to build a moozillion of them! It's not like rare right-handed ones with lots of collectors looking to snatch 'em up! Whole different supply and demand dynamic at work here! Left-handedness is the Pluto of the guitar solar system!

By the by, Jay, I considered your Penguin, and its lack of Bigsby made it a non-starter for me. I don't know how to play electric guitar without one. Having bought a guitar from you in the past, I can certainly vouch for how well you care for your instruments, in case any prospective buyers are looking in.

i've been to jerrys place a couple times. he has about 150 brand new top line lefty guitars. i played quite a few just to say i've tried them.(kind of like a righty in a guitar center LOL). some were really nice. others werent all that much. but i was able to sit down and try them all out and decide which ones were nice out of the box.

i figure the trade of the penguin for the EE is in his favor, but he evidently wants to keep the EE.

i've had a few emails about my penguin. all want a discount. i will hold on to it before i take a hit on the price.

one thing for sure....it'll still be in mint condition 2-3 years from now. the economy has to come back someday.

You were willing to trade the Penguin straight up for the EE? And he turned you down? Hmmmm...

yes, i offered him this penguin for the EE. he said he would think about it. he didnt jump on it though. i knew i was the one taking the loss. i told him he'd have an easier time selling the penguin for 2200-2300 then the EE. he'll be lucky to get 1500-1700 for it. its a no brainer on his behalf (you would think).
