I thought I would try again, anything new in the lefty dept for 2009? Waiting for a LTV Anni with bracing, what can be so hard about making them. I should just quit while I'm still able to play

My wife is coveting my new spruce Club (and I don't even have it in hand yet). And I've seen lefty Clubs before but all I see available right now on MF and Sweetwater and such are the lefty 6120-1959LHTV and a couple of Tennessee Rose models. Anyone know in a left handed Country Club is still available or will be shortly? I've searched the used market and can't seem to get one fast enough before they get snatched up. My wife is threatening to learn right handed and that just will not do.

It's threads like this that make me thank my lucky stars that I learned to play right handed. (I do everything else left handed except for three things: using scissors, using a computer mouse and playing guitar.)
For your guys' sake, I hope Gretsch tools up for a few more lefty models. Too bad Elliot Easton left the fold...I'm sure he'd have put a bug in someone's ear by now.

Hey, Absaroka,
Check with Joel at Shanghai Guitars (GDP sponsor, look to the right side of this page!). He may not have one in stock, but if there are any in the warehouse, he can get one quickly, and at a price you'll be much more pleased about than what you can get at Sweetwater or MuFr.
Personally, I'm holding out until they offer a lefty Country Club with Dynasonics.

Hey, Cyrilcliment,
I think that's the one we lefties all want! You, me, and Shuie so far. If we can find nine other portsiders who'll go for them, maybe we can have a run of 12 made. (That tends to be the minimum size run.)

The lefty we sent back was a special order that due to the fact the buyer lost their ability to purchase it through no fault of their own we where kind of stuck with. We could not move it. Not even at cost. Fender was very kind to take it back and swap it out for a right handed Gretsch. I'm not sure if there's going to be much new product development in general for most companies today. I think at the moment they're probably wanting to move existing inventory (...I know I'm in that camp). I know sales of new instruments regardless of brand are dramatically down now. Lots of companies have lots of product in warehouses waiting to move. Until that happens there really isn't any incentives to develop anything new. Really, I can't wait till the economy to pick back up. I'd say our business is down 60% from 6 months ago. The Fender price hikes didn't help. They where supposed to have some sales last week but it was kind of like a non event. Mostly Fender stuff and really no Gretsch items to speak of. I know they lowered the MAP on some guitars but the net price stayed the same so dealers are kind of having to bear the burden. Again, I can't wait for the economy to improve. Oklahoma buys us a lot of freedom and the ability to live in such an economy. I couldn't imagine doing this in Los Angeles. Our boat would've sunk 6 months ago...

Someone mentioned "any new models coming out". There are plenty of "left handed Gretsch's" available now but they're asking for any brand spankin' new models for 2009. I haven't heard news on new Lefty's unless there's some specials runs out there. Last I was told by Fender is they may be putting special orders on hold for the time being...

I'm not ruling out the possibility of any new lefty models, it's just that with the current economic situation I don't see it likely. I know a lot of the companies we deal with have cut new product development a bit. Not saying Fender specifically but companies such as Loud Technologies (...Crate, Mackie, Ampeg, etc) are having enough trouble moving existing product let along new product. I know in the past we couldn't keep Rics on the floor and now we've got the most in stock than we've ever had. I've heard the same is true for shops in OKC. Not trying to be a pessimist but these are dark economic times which don't lend themselves too well to growth. I know what businesses we have left in town are cutting most people hours. Some have had their hours cut by half. I guess that's better then no job at all but still it's not good...

As a lefty, I want any model they introduce to be successful, because that will motivate them to introduce more lefty models, the prospect of which I find very appealing, for some reason.
So, with the economy being in the state it currently is in, I would rather they hold off on rolling out anything new, because sales might not be too impressive in the immediate future. Don't want to discourage this lefty thing, you see. I'd rather wait.
That said, I've cleared headroom in my fiscal position for a 2-tone Dyna Club, and I'll be ready to pounce when brighter days dawn.

Well, finally, fellows... a left-handed Electromatic is just around the corner! To be introduced at the Winter NAMM.
Partially reprinted from one of my posts elsewhere on the GDP:
This won't be a garden-variety Electromatic.
The Tim Armstrong Signature Model
Based on Rancid's singer/guitarist's '70s Country Club, here's what everyone (lefties and righties alike) can expect:
17" wide, 3" deep body
Those little Baldwin-era winky f-holes
24.6" scale
Grovers
Original pickups bisected, dissected, analyzed, and replicated (no Gretschbuckers, thank you)
Flat black finish sorta per Armstrong's original*
Gold hardware, including gold pickup rings
"No Bigsby" says Joe Carducci (I assume it will be a trapeze tailpiece as on Armstrong's)
Knobs that turn in correct direction for lefties (a first for Gretsch!)
Street price: a decent slice under $1,000
*Armstrong painted his with a rattle can from a hardware store, didn't even take off the strings beforehand; expect a more professional approach for the Sig model.
Mr. Armstrong's original is a converted right-handed model, and Joe Carducci tells me Tim's pretty stoked about the prospect of getting a proper lefty with a cutaway that, you know, allows access to the upper frets. Just what we all want, don't you think?
I had custody of another artist-sig Electromatic last year (a righty G Love Corvette), and I'm here to tell you: these upscalier Electros are top-notch guitars, and assessing value-for-the-money, I doubt they can be beaten.
To other points: I think it's great that Gretsch is associating with contemporary artists to draw in the next generation, and creating fabulous, affordable iterations of major models for everyone.
Full disclosure: I'm going to be owning one of these very soon. Check the Nashville Roundup threads for details.
Meanwhile, eventually...At the Nashville Roundup last weekend, I continued to twist the good Mr. Carducci's arm for a lefty 2-tone Dyna Club, and he asked me two questions: what color does everyone want (I told him the Bamboo Yellow/Copper, because that's how I remembered it), and does Bigsby make a gold B6 left-handed (yes). "Then we're done, here," he said to me.
Wooo...
Joe also told me that they're working at making everything on their left-handed models correctly left-handed, including the wiring.
If you've been watching this space, your patience will soon pay dividends.

More than a chance. Let me say this: based on my conversation with Joe, I've already started my Bamboo Dyna Club Purchasing Fund.
We lefties have never before had a Dyna-equipped CC, and that's one of the finest sonic recipes Gretsch offers. The two-tone color scheme is icing on the cake!

Good questions, but I don't have answers. We didn't discuss availability date or whether it would be a run vs. a regular model, and I have no basis to speculate on either issue.

Hmmm..
I don't know if I would want lefty wiring. Usually that means righty pots wired backwards that don't really work correctly. Great to hear that they are continuing to cater to us, even thought we are a small ststistical population.

Hey, Jim W,
I told Joe I was pretty indifferent to the idea myself, but that I didn't mind. I'll be finding out in the next month or so if they work properly.
I think it would be accurate to say that a fair bit of catering to lefties is forthcoming. Joe was waxing really enthusiastically about the work they're doing on the lefty models.
