silly question , is it possible for a pickup selector switch to by used as a standby switch ,,,,,,,, with electronics ,,,,, i get the elec part , its the tronics that throw me

If by "standby" you mean "no pickups selected", then yes, it is possible.

Well most old gretsches had a standby switch... not sure what the new ones have. Useful option, I use mine.

I think a tone switch might be better, because a pickup selector will provide on with the middle position as well as the position that the lug that is connected to, which may not be desired, otherwise o.k. if you don't mind that.

well what i want is on my 5122 up by the pickup selector switch i want a second switch ,,, strictly for the looks , so i figure make it a standby switch , but i dont want to use the regular standby switch if you get what i mean

Just a word of warning-- putting a standby switch on the upper bout next to the pickup switch is just asking for trouble. It would be very easy to engage the switch and kill all sound inadvertently if you happen to be strumming vigorously.
For this reason, Gretsch always placed the standby switch toward the lower bout, and out of the way of any swinging-arm strumming activity.

Anne, yeah it's not too difficult. Your guitars look excellent. One thing that might help is back pads. Have you thought about getting some? Adam
