I`m installing a GFS NY II in the neck position of my 5235 pro jet(thanks Proteous). There is a positive(white), negative(red) and a braided groud as well. The instructions say you could get unwanted noise from the braided ground in some situations.Has anyone done this install and if so do you ground the braided wire with the neg.(3 way switch) or do you somehow ground it elsewhere in the cavity? Oh by the way , I love this forum...talk about a wealth of information!

I just twisted the braided wire and the red wire together and soldered them into the old harness. I didn't run the wires all the way to the switch. I just cut the wires and soldered them in line and it sounds fine to me with little to no noise.

thanks Lil Ski,so I guess my other question is how do you like it, and do you get much single coil hum? I'm thinking of grounding the pickup and body cavities.

I love them! You get a tad bit of hum but if you put it on both it goes dead quiet. I have them on both neck and bridge.
Just realized I never took any pics of it with the new pickups. Here are my babies!!

nice guitars. Is that a b7 on the pro jet? I like the script writing on the headstock as well.Does Setzer still sell them, and was it hard to do?

LilSki,
First off, nice guitar! I wanted a silver one with the G-cut tailpiece (so I could later add a B7), but ended up settling for a black one with a B5. All the silver ones I played had problems (one had loose frets!). No regrets though, love my little black guitar.
On your PJ, you get hum-cancelling when both pickups are on?
On mine (also with NYII's), I get slightly MORE hum with both pickups on. (but since there isn't much to begin with, it doesn't bother me). Either my neck pickup is not reverse wound/polarity (as advertised), or I've got something wired wrong (not likely).
However, the tone is great with both pickups on, so I'm not worried about it.

I thought about the black initially but decided the silver would be easier to keep clean
. And actually the bigsby is a B70 as I like the cleaner look of the licensed ones. And yes it was a G tail piece PJ.
I'm sure Setzer will make you up a script electromatic and it wasn't all that hard to do. If anything the PJ was easier to do as the patch for the 5120 was much larger.
From what I have read around here was that the single coil hum was supposed to be canceled out when in the both position. I could be wrong though. Again the hum on one pickup is barely noticeable.
The 5120 with TVJ Classics is dead quiet all the way around (as it should).
The two guitars compliment themselves very well the way they are setup. I use the 5120 for the cleaner stuff into some slight OD, and the PJ is more for the heavy stuff with its higher output. But it can be tamed quiet well to play clean like the 5120.
Last thing to change is the pick guard on the PJ to match the 5120.

Thanks for the help Lil Ski,I'll see if I can get in touch with Setzer for those scripts. K Wad, it sounds like you might have a grounding issue somewhere.I've been researching shielding methods although I haven't found a good way to do these as they are chambered.I'll post it if I find a solution.

After wiring up the gfs in the neck position(keeping the stock pup in the bridge...for now)I found they sounded great individually but with both on there was a significant volume drop. Guessing it was an out of phase issue I wired the GFS up backwards(red hot, white ground)and this seems to have fixed it.Anyone else have to do this?
The only other thing is the Gfs is really hot compared to the stock. I had to lower it right down and raise the stock pup as high as I could to even them out.Does anyone have a TV Jones classic plus mated with the GFS NYII?
I have to say I LOVE the tones I can pull from this guitar.Best money I've spent in years! I think I see a 5120 in my future...
