I finally got my Pro Jet back yesterday with the GFS NY III pickups, full set up (frets leveled, intonation etc...) and then put my custom pickguard from Paul Setzer on it when I got home. It looks and sounds great. The GFS are much more aggressive (clean and dirty) than the previous Gretsch Mini Hum's. Love it. Can't wait to try it at practice!

I haven't seen any posts about the NY-III GFS pickups. Most around here go with the NY-IIs (single-coil).

What do the NY-IIIs sound similar to?

Well, the only thing I had to compare them to were the mini hums that were in it previously. Definitely more output, maybe a little brighter and a little more edge and growl. I like single coils but don't like the hum so much lol !

Paul you did an outstanding job (not that I doubted that you would do anything but that seeing all your previous work and praise from fellow members here!) It really makes the guitar ! Thanks again!

Also these were direct mount pickups but the guy who installed them was able to use springs so they were adjustable (he just got two more for each pickup. Much better than not being able to adjust them if need be. So if anyone is using these or the NY II you don't have to direct mount them.

I wonder if the NY-IIIs are FilterTron-ish in sound?

Not sure. I just played them at practice tonight (but my band plays mainly hard rock and metal) but they handled the high gain stuff really well. Lotta balls, but the cleans are nice and twangy or sparkly depending on what you want.

Guitar really looks sharp!!! I'm glad someone finally has installed the NYIII's.

I have a gold Pro Jet and I'm not crazy about the pickups in it. Ordered a set of the white NYIII"s today!!!
