Electromatics

Have you seen these new Electromatic Double Jets?

I really like the one in TAHITI RED, but it is darn close to FIESTA RED.

3

those don't seem that close to me. i have a harder time distinguishing between Fiesta Red and Torino Red.

my favorites are the blue and particularly the Metallic Dark Cherry. that's the kind of guitar finish i could see having my appliances painted so i could look at it all day long. it would make a striking aesthetic for a reimagined 70s kitchen.

The new lineups are awesome!

5

I like the blue also. My only issue with these new Electromatic Double Jets is why Gretsch did not move the Bigsby B5 back an inch or so......which would really help with the severe string break angle over the bridge and really improve feel and tuning stability. I am also hoping/waiting for the return of real single coil pu's to the Electromatic line.

6

I totally agree on the single coils! Joe C. told me a couple years ago that a CVT with dynasonics was in the works, but he couldn't say when.

7

Im in for single coils too. It would be great if the neck set/relief would be at least a better modding platform for an aftermarket pickup Installation. I'm tempted to buy a new electro jet to drop in my 2 dearmond 2ks but I'm afraid that this wouldnt work. I know that there are TArmonds that would fit but it would break the bank for me.

Any solution out there fitting Dearmond 2ks or 2000s in the newer Jet line? Thanks

I totally agree on the Bigsby. If it had a b70 style Bigsby you could at least angle it up a bit with some spacers.

9

Dark Cherry Met for me,but that B50 ,why oh why couldn't they come with a G cut out tail,i have a strong aversion to any Bigsby with a second tension bar.

"My only issue with these new Electromatic Double Jets is why Gretsch did not move the Bigsby B5 back an inch or so..."

looking at the photos it looks like moving it back would mess up the ergonomics of the handle cos it'd be too short. they'd need to spec a longer handle, which = more expense.

with a Soft Spring the B5/B50 can be all right...i played an Electromatic Double Jet in the mid-00s with the B50 and was quite surprised at how well it worked compared to the B70 on the Epiphone Wildkat i owned at that time. and if the bridge posts are the normal smaller of the 2 typical metric bridge posts, a bar bridge will drop right on and improve matters Bigsby considerably.

If you find one of the ProJets or double jets from before the blacktop era (the 5235 era models) then the 2Ks should go in with little or no modification.

Yeah i know. But they are heavy as hell. Used prices in europe are kinda weird. They are almost the same as the newer ProJets brandnew. I believe build quality and electronics are better now than the older line. So I'm sticking to the current line for modding

The last couple of years of the 52XX series of Pro/Double Jets were more heavily chambered than before. Not that they were lightweights but they were lighter, more in line with current production. You might look for that.

Good luck however you go and keep us informed. I have a set of 2000s looking for somewhere to be put to use.

Thanks! Over at Gretsch Talk someone made it happen. Pickup rings still missing. I'm hopeful that this kinda works. Maybe you are still able to re-use the Gretsch bezels? For cosmetic reasons. Maybe widen them a little bit with sanding (Dremel use?)

17

I do like that Tahitian Red color, and yes, it looks like Fiesta Red to me too, one of my all time favorite colors for Strats, nice and muted.

19

I might 'thin the herd' again in the near future for one of these. The dark cherry one is calling to me like a siren.

I own one since yesterday. My first Gretsch, the Casino Gold version, I love it already The G5232T is not listed in the database yet. Is there some place where I can add it?

I think you'll need to contact Baxter, the site admin.
