2007 Pickup Replacement

  1. Hi,everyone I have a 2007 pro Jet I am thinking of replacing the minibuckers with Dynasonics . Is this a straightforward job ? and if not what is involved? . Shane

  2. I think it usually requires some routing on a projet.

  3. i have a 2008 jet that i put filtertrons in , that was straightforward , but not sure with dynasonics

  4. Thanks for the reply what was involved in installing the filtetrons if they were straightforward I might try them, and how do they sound? thanks Shane

  5. Hi Shane, I've no idea but welcome to GDP. Tubs

  8. Thanks for the replies everyone.

  9. i think i am going to buy the new pro jet , i love the hump inlays ,,,,,,,,,,, but sad they didnt to a headstock binding ,,, i actualy like the pro jet better than my duo jet , and i'll do dyna pick ups in that,,,, and also i'll use the stock bigsby , and take a Gretsch bigsby and combine the two , that will be interesting

  10. Welcome to the GDP Shane. I can't help with mounting Dynas in your guitar. I have installed them in a full humbucker sized rout.

It depends partly on the specific pickups you're using (meaning not just will the case fit in the pickup cavity, but also the depth required by the magnets), and the dimensions of the pickup cavity.

First,if the pickup covers will fit in the cavity, you're over halfway there. Then you check the depth requirement for the Dynasonic magnets. As you can see in the photo on this page, the Dynas can require a fair amount of room: http://angela.com/gretschch...

However, if you're using the T-Armonds from TV Jones, the magnet spacing may be considerably less, but it's hard to tell from their photos: http://tvjones.com/pickups/...

What also influences this is the neck angle on your guitar, and hence how far up (compared to the bottom of the pickup cavity) the pickup needs to go.

So if you can find samples of the pickup you want to use, you can take the measurements you need.

  12. Thanks -pk you have pretty much confirmed wheat I am thinking buy them and see how they fit. Shane

  13. My 2007 ProJet has TV Jones PowerTrons, which are in the same form-factor as FilterTrons.

A little routing was needed for them to fit.

I had always read that DynaSonics would fit into the bridge cavity with minimal tools needed. However, I also always heard the neck Dyna definitely required routing, and sometime the necessary routing nearly went fully through the back of the guitar,

Since then, Paul Pigat modded his PJ with DynaSonics. IIRC, he didn't need too many tools for the job.

This is one of those times when you want to dry-fit and measure twice before you do anything.

If you find that the Dynas don't work, you always have the option of using P90s, Dearmond 2000s, or even GFS NY-II pickups. Of FilterTrons, of course.

  14. FilterTrons my be a more practicable option it's s great help to here other peoples experiences. Thanks

  15. well on my 2008 pr jet i put filtertrons , and zero routing had to be done , i just added filler blocks , Shane , you going with TV Jones filtertrons , or Gretsch , i went with Gretsch

  16. Ann I think I will go with the Gretsch they get good reviews and the TV Jones are very expensive especially in Europe.Sound wise is there a big difference between the Filtertrons and the standard Minibuckers ??
