Hi! folks, i wanted to know how this: Gretsch Vibrola works compared to the usual Bigsby. I want to put a Bigsby on my Annie(see my avatar)but don't want to drill new holes. Thanks for your help.
Good Bigsby alternative?

Hi treblebooster,
The vibrola doesn't work like a bigsby. It can't lower the strings, only tighten them. So when using it they will only sound higher and it doesn't really work smooth like a bigsby. I never used one but I can't imagine that they are very useful. I think strings are more prone to breaking with these and changing strings is a real hassle.
About the drilling of holes for a new Bigsby: I'll be coming with a post about that one of these days....... So maybe just wait for that....

Isn't that what was called the "tone bender"? Never tried one but wasn't it Dan himself that said these were only good as string breakers?
I say drill the holes!

Drill the extra holes in the Bigsby.
You cannot beat a Bigsby!

Get a Vibramate. With it you can mount a Bigsby without the holes, I believe.

I don't think there is any good alternative to a bigsby.

Oh puhleeze, Dan Duffy, you talk about Gretsch stuff as if you know anything about it... C'mon, we all know you don't...wait, what? He's who? Did what? Oh, ummm... okay. So, as I was saying, LISTEN TO DAN DUFFY, he KNOWS what he's talking about when it comes to Gretsch.
Drill the holes. You won't be sorry you did.

Lonnie Mack's set-up looks cool, I'm not sure what type of Bigsby it is.

The Vibramate only works on guitars with a stop tail piece a la Gibson. But it looks like it does that really well.
I'm with the others, drill away, you won't lose any resale or value.

Thanks!folks, I'm hesitating between drilling the new holes on the guitar and modifying the vintage B6 Gretsch Bigsby I acquired... One screw lines perfectly but I'm afraid it won't be enough to hold things down.

If you are unsure about drilling some extra holes into your 'Vintage' Bigsby then simply get a reissue. If you really want to install a Bigsby onto your guitar (which I think you should do) then there is only two choices, it's either drilling into the guitar or drilling into the Bigsby.
