Curious if you might be able to add some insight into this...
Legend has it that one of the advantages that Gretsch enjoyed by moving the electric guitar line away from the DeArmond pickups and to the Filtertron units was gaining control of their manufacturing. So does this mean they were produced in the Brooklyn factory?
Many of us (on this forum at least) feel that the Filtertron pickup is one of the most under-rated units in the world, and I thought it would be cool to know a bit more about them, and their manufacture. Thanks for anything you might be able to share!
I have this box of, presumably, Supertron coils, that allegedly came from Duke Kramer. They came nicely packed in a cardboard box labeled "Hudson Wire Company". Not sure when they were made, or if they actually came from that company, but I think they may have. The coils look very similar to Filter'tron coils, and appear to be made of the same material. Maybe that's a lead for you.
All the FT pickups were made in the factory. CHET and JW approved them but I didn't. They were weak sounding and had no balls. We made adjustments and improved them.
Hello Dan,

Ed, maybe Ray's daughter might have some insight?
Riz, got a photo of the box/label?
BTW, I've got some of these coils from Riz...thanks again.
Supertron pickups are up there.

Well, there you have it!
Straight from the "horses" mouth, so to speak!
Thanks for the insight Dan!
