1963 Gretsch 6070.

  1. I bought this 1963 Gretsch 6070 bass about 5 or 6 years ago from this older man. I don't really know much about it. I noticed the action is really high on it. Is it supposed to be like that? The pick up seem kinda fuzzy too. Also I need one button for the back. Sorry I'm a newbie

  2. That is the first year. Gretsch was 10 years late to the electric bass market. by rights, it should have the short pole with it. High action could be?

Bridge set high neck needs truss rod adjustment neck angle is bad; needs reset or all of the above.

But when they are set up, they are very rewarding with a nice thumpy sounds.

fuzzy could be wiring probs; pickup probs unlikely unless it was messed with.

Show us some pix .. we love 6070s. And you are right .. I never tire of pointing out that it was simply known as the '6070 electric bass'... it was NEVER officially called/names the The Country Gentleman bass.

  3. Thank you for the information. I really do appreciate it. I'm adding pics of it now.

How would I go about getting it checked out? Do I need to talk to a Gretsch specialist or can I should I just take it to any old guitar store?

  4. Here ya go

  5. So where are those pix? Would not take to just any old store. Some can really only deal w/ bolt on neck guitars.... I think a vintage guitar specialist/repair guy would be the best bet. They should start w/ simple stuff first....lower the bridge, adust the truss rod, give it some time to respond... then see where you are. If there are still probs, then there is more to be done.
