  Hello Billy - I know you are very busy with your tour and that you don't have time to look through all of threads. I went through all of the topics in your section (up to March 23) and looked for all the unanswered questions that people asked. If you have time, I hope you can answer some of them.

  Will the tribute model be lacquer or poly finished?

  What is the output of the vintage Dyna/DeArmond PUs on your vintage guitars?

  What do you think of bar bridges? Do you pin your bridges?

  What type of strings do you use? (guage, flats or rounds, brand)

  Do you have a cat?

  What is the D.C. resistance of the Seymour PUs in your tribute model?

  What year is the Strat used on "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" and "White Girl"?

  One thing I like about you AJ (beyond your ability to write a phenomenally good song with only two chords) is that you don't hesitate to ask the core questions. I still think that you have one of the most awesome looking cats I've ever seen.

  >What is the output of the vintage Dyna/DeArmond PUs on your vintage >guitars? How do you want output stated? They're about the same as vintage P-90's, which is a little hotter than the standard DeArmond reissue.

  They sound good, but I prefer the Melita because I can intonate it.The main thing on a hollow guitar is to have a bridge with enough mass or weight. If they don't have enough mass, the top won't resonate and the guitar will sound thin and won't sustain well. I always screw the bridge to the guitar.

  >What type of strings do you use? (guage, flats or rounds, brand)

  .010" to .046", either GHS Nickel Rockers, or Fender Original 150's. Lately I've been using the Fenders because the GHS's are so inconsistent. It can take three sets to get six good strings. GHS has always had that problem. When I find a good batch, they sound great.

  I love cats, but my wife is allergic to them. I have a dog that loves cats.

  They're about 11K.

  Late '58, #29604. For the record, that video of us in the studio recording White Girl was a posed lip-sync. BZ

  Thank you for answering these questions. A quirk of this message board is that it is nearly impossible to get the spacing right. Last week I went through the same thing you just did when I posted the lyrics to a song in the "Your Tunes" section. "Honky Tonk Tonight"; give it a listen.

  You can arrange your answers in sort of a "bulletized" setup(for lack of a better term).

  First, type in the - symbol. Then leave one space, enter your text, then enter at the end. It should split up your post like this:

  i posed these questions in the "what's the status of the bz tribute" forum but they haven't been seen maybe buried in mass. but one question i had was answered and i am very happy to hear the bz tributes are lacquer finish! however i would like to add here these questions:

  1. when should the BZ tributes be in stores?
  2. are they japan or usa make?
  3. what is the possible price range?

  Chester - Sorry that I didn't post those questions with the rest. The Japan/USA question fell through the cracks. The other two I left out because I felt these were things for Gretsch to answer, not Billy. However, I guess I should have posted them. Sorry.

  Tribute models are usually limited editions produced in the Gretsch Custom Shop in the USA.

  Should there be a Billy Zoom Signature model put into production, (Please, Joe? Please, please please?), that would likely be made in Japan by Terada.

  Billy went looking for the tribute again. wasted alot of time ...like I looking for a Holy Grail................................. I felt up #1 when you were not looking Sunday, at the Omaha show. Looks like you have had your way with her for a while... proto#1 looks well worn. I studied it enough to ask if the others will have the same fingerboard materials?, ( without saying to much) ................... FOR THE RECORD ..Production date of release?

  A - you have to put three spaces (space space space)
  2 - at the end of every line
  iii - to tell the sfw where to break
  • and if you use a numeral, letter or bullet at the beginning of the line (instead of a dash),
  • you avoid the boxes.
  * An asterisk will also work.

  Question for Billy. Once you told me that you bought your original Silver Jet in the '70s, I forget what year you told me, what '76 or something and you bought it from a guitar shop or was it pawn shop run by hippies who didn't care for the nice silver finish. Makes sense because everything has to be natural wood for hippies to like. Silver is too '50s and too rockabilly and glamorous for hippies. My question is were you looking specifically for a Gretsch Silver Jet or did you just happen upon it and bought it without searching for such a guitar?
  

  Did you own your 6120 with DeArmonds prior to the Silver Jet or did you buy the 6120 after the Jet because you liked the Jet so much and wanted another Gretsch of the big full open sound hole variety?

  Billy, I've seen X in concert twice. I'm sure if I saw X more or back in the early years I would have heard "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" but the X shows I have been too I didn't hear the band play that song.

  Does the band play this song in concert sometimes or not at all? This has gotta be one of my fave if not favorite X songs.

  Congrats on getting your own tribute model Billy. It's long overdue IMHO. You're probably responsible for selling more Gretsch Silverjets than any ad or brochure Gretsch has ever put out.

  Question: Is there any chance that a standard BZ signature model will be issued after the tribute replica sells out? It would be nice to be able to buy a regular BZ signature model, in brand new condition, with original style tuners, complete with a Billy Zoom Signature pickguard! I've done a pretty good job of putting some wear on the `57 RI Silverjet I bought awhile back (inspired by you, of course). It would be cool to be able to buy a Silverjet with your name on it.

  BR: That guitar guitar was new, and relic'd. A little over-relic'd. THe production models aren't as worn.
  DeArmond:I had the 6120 first, but it fed back when I tried to play power chords. I just happened to find the Silver Jet. I didn't know what it was, but it looked cool.
  We've never played Dancing With Tears live, because it doesn't sound right wthout a Rhythm guitar.
  PauloGregorio: I was promised a Signature model, but it took almost ten years for the Tribute to become a reality, so we'll see.
