Question about SynchoSonic saddle buzz

  1. Hey Billy.....quick question for ya. I'm having a love hate with the SynchoSonic bridge on my Jet.

I'm getting a tinny buzz on my high E and to a lesser extent on my B string. I noticed the Z "clip" on the E wasn't quite square with the corners,so I bent it just a hair, and that seemed to help for a while. Yesterday I heard the buzz again. Everything looks kosher, but I notice lot of play in the saddles.

I have some low profile screws en route from Blackrider. Do you think this will help?

Any advice? (well, beyond the advice of "get a bar bridge")

I'm kind of digging the sound of the bridge, and would like to tame it.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. I've never had that problem. The string tension alone should keep things from moving. I put Melita bridges on pretty much everything, including my Epiphone. Are you sure it's the bridge that's buzzing?

  3. I had the same problem with my high E string as well. I don't know if it;s the plastic saddle or what. It bugged the crap out of me.

  6. Billy...I'm about 99% sure it the saddle. The thumbscrew really doesn't seem to hold the Z clip (or whatever you call the metal clip that holds the corrals the saddle)all that firmly. I can push down on the saddle and the buzz goes away. It almost seems like the saddle isn't wide enough, as it rocks a bit in the channel. I'm hoping the screws I ordered will alleviate some of the issues. They'll at least save the side of my hand. I really dig the Melita. It imparts a certain "hollow" quality I really dig.

  7. Check to make sure the channel is level and the bottom of the saddle flat. Bend the retainer / Z clip more so there will be greater pressure. The screws should not make a difference unless they are bottoming out before clamping down enough pressure. You'll know for sure when you get your low profiles. Blackrider also carries saddles and retainers but I think I got the last of the duke kramer stash so all that is in stock might be RI stuff.

I've never had trouble with my Melita's rattling. They are vintage examples. Only thing I had to deal with where the retainers I got from blackrider not being bent properly.

  8. Setzer, I think it is the retainers. The one for the E string doesn't look quite as square as the others. Should you be able to move the retainer when the screws are clamped down? I can move the E quite easily for some reason. I should be getting the screws from Mitch today. I'll see if I can get the clip square and check the bottom of the saddle. I dig the Melita and really want to get it to work. I put my Tru Arc aluminum bar on last night, and it sounded great, but it took away some of the character of the guitar. Made it sustain a bit more, and sounded rounder, but it was missing something. Thanks for the tips guys!

  9. Paul has already traded message with you, but here is a visual I posted 2 years ago of the most common culprit as shown my by Joe C at the Nashville Roundup.

  10. But the strings hold the saddles on. The little brackets just keep you from dropping pieces while the strings are off, or if you break a string.

  11. Melita, this is Space Control. We're picking up a tiny buzz on the synchrosonic. We'd be happy to assist but all our tone is currently sucked.

... and we couldn't Adjusta it out with any amount of Compensation. If you need us, we're all Truly going to the Bar for complete refreshment.

Commander Proteus of The Tru Arc—beam me up, there's no life on this bridge.
  14. Ouch tough room! Honestly, I'm kind of digging the Syncho. The high E saddle is making a plinking noise mainly when I fingerpick. The bracket is flush, and I'm using 11's, so I think there's enough down pressure on the saddle. It looks like when I pluck a string the saddle is lifting and going to the left a bit. I fiddled with it a bit last night, and it's better, but still not 100%. I think that saddle might be the culprit. Got the low profile screws and that made all the difference in the world!

  15. Are the screws stainless?

  16. Hey Billy. They appear to be. They are working out great. Got the annoying buzz worked out as well, so I'm a happy camper.

  17. I was just teasing you because I sell better bridge screws for less money.

  18. Punk!

Yeah, 10 bills is a bit steep. My tech ordered them, and I didn't even think about asking you. I'll know better next time!

  19. The screws I sell have flatter, smoother heads that make palm muting even easier. They're also stainless steel so you can sweat on them all you like. I also have brass pan heads for gold bridges, but the brass does tarnish.
Six bucks a set including postage. BZ

  20. Very cool......I can only imagine what cool parts you have laying about.

  21. Yeah, me too. Someday I'll have to inventory it all.
