I'm new to the pages so be kind please! After playing Precisions for a few years I have just bought a Gretsch G6072 (2006). It is a superbly made bass, but then you all probably know that already. I love the different sounds it produces which will give me great pleasure in investigating over the coming weeks. The main thing I need to get used to is the differenct playing position. The Gretsch seems to sit out to the left more than the Precision. I feel as though I need an extra few inches on my left arm. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. Anyway, it's nice to be here and I look forward to contributing to these pages if I can.
Very New, Very Green

Looks just like mine !
You're right, it does take getting used to. I was trying to figure out a way to push the damn thing to the right. Instead, I raised the angle of the neck up (think Bill Wyman), just a few inches, not so that it was bolt upright. Enough to make it more comfortable.

Hutton, WTF is the avatar supposed to be? Is it more than just a picture of your sneaker toes?

Thanks for the advice chaps. I see what you mean by tilting the neck up. I'll give it a go. My Avatar is a picture my daughter took of her feet going down stairs. Nothing more, nothing less. She was a photography student at the time.

Hey, very cool to have a new Gretsch bass player in the ranks!
We're all probably guilty of paying too little attention to the 4-string variants of the Great Gretsch Sound. I was very impressed with all the G basses I sampled at NAMM, and the way they implement unique and distinctive Gretsch tone in the low register.
It's something that really has to be heard live to be appreciated, and we all have too little opportunity to do so.
I wish more people would consider Gretsch basses when buying. They really ARE an alternative to the status quo.
I've been harrassing my bass player to get one, but he says they're too expensive. Pah!

Hi Mr Randall. Thanks for your positive comments. I note from another forum that you now have your own G6072 so the information re price isn't now needed. How about a pic of your new bass?
P.S. Can anyone tell me why my avatar and posted pics have dissapeared?
