I'm going to be taking a look at a Fender Jazz bass posted on Craig's List. The fella's asking $350.00. The model# is MN7138657 which, I believe, places it as 1997--Mexican made. Any thoughts?

That seems a bit high for a used one. used MIM Fender jazz basses are around $250 at music-go-round and I've seen closeouts at various online retailers for around $400-$450.

Agreed. I got my 2006 Fender Bassman USA for $599 at Guitar Center. For a couple hundred more you might catch new AND American.
I just went to craigslist and saw 2 in the $250 range, and a 1999 US for $500.
NOTE - mine was new and a year old, got there the day GC marked it down for quick sale. BUT - if you frequent stores eventually you find the killer deals.

BTW- I got my Squire J-bass ( new, in a discontinued color) for $165. My bass player says it plays and sounds as good as a MIM or MIJ Fender.

To conclude things, I checked out the J-bass today and found it to be in excellent condition. It played great, had a recent set up, and looked like it came off the wall of the music store. I offered 275 because of the good condition and walked away with a great bass at a great price. A vote up for each of you gents for the advice on the price.
