About the Gretsch Pages

Today’s Featured Guitar

1

I used to love to see the featured guitar, even back on the days where it wasn't just on the opening page, but on all pages, such as New Topics. In any event, am I alone? Does anyone else like to look at the guitar porn on here? Bax, is there any chance of rehabilitating the feature on the GDP?

And, Bax, as long as I have your attention, what is the "new sidebar feature" that I have seen referenced on here? Am I overlooking it somewhere on here?

I miss the Tartan Phantom obscure guitar catalogue-of-the-week series. That was great.

Really? Didn't know it was that popular... when I got busier and busier with gigs & rehearsals for two bands, I found less and less time to devote to researching/writing/editing/posting these things. It's simple enough to post a pic, but trying to give a little historical background to put it in context was sometimes difficult... I mean, I guess I could have just posted a photo and said: "Silvertone 1486-- from the 1965 Sears Catalog" but that would have been incredibly boring.

Unfortunately, the boot sector on the hard drive that contains all of my catalog scans took a powder about a month ago. Fortunately I had the vast majority of docs backed up, so they are on a portable drive around here somewhere. However, since I plan on purchasing an entirely new desktop (my laptop is doing most of the heavy lifting these days), I am hoping that I will be able to rescue even more files from the old hard drive.

As it is, I still have all of the ones I posted over the years in my photobucket, so, without a further ado, here's a blast from the past-- make up your own dialogue & guitar story!

I guess the best part about this ad is that Vinnie Bell is still around and kickin'.... still doing studio work too!

I miss it too. It was like a special surprise on every log-in.

It's on my painful to do list.

I always enjoyed seeing them too but I figured there was a man behind the curtains. You do a great job with the database, Rob. Thanks for all you do. We are forever thanking Baxter but there are other people involved in keeping this site going and Rob is very much connected, folks.

I remember Rob's postings and it was always fun to see some company's history through their own advertising.

The featured guitar was a cool feature, too.

I wish that I were smart enough to help you on stuff like this, Bax. Unfortunately, I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start or how to do anything.
