Just want to give a shout-out..

To our man Proteus. The guy's never found anything worth doing that wasn't worth doing in excess, but I think he's outdone himself with his NAMM coverage.
So far (and I'm pretty sure he's not done yet) he's produced 37 updates, nearly 300 photos, and 12 giveaways.
Gotta throw Ric12 some credit, too. He definitely helped.
Wow. That's some coverage. Salute.
Oh yeah, you guys have pitched in with about 600 comments. Salute!

Cheers to Proteus!

I talked to Tim today and he sounded really worn out, and he leaves tomorrow for his regular job as computer geek, this time for a casket company.
He has done a marvelous job with the NAAM coverage.

Hmm... I guess I should check the happenings section more often. I managed to miss the whole thing despite being here every day.

He sure does do a great job. Thanks to all those who helped us in the outreaches of the planet Earth get to a NAMM!

Amazing coverage as always Tim!
Thanks to all the others that pitched in with pics, videos, and other fun stuff from NAMM. It's so great to be able to see a little of what's going on out there.
And thanks to Bax for all the work he's put into all this too, and on top of everything going on for dropping the new layout.
Cheers to everyone involved!

One of the goals of the redesign was making it easier to keep track of what's going on elsewhere around the site. So now Happenings is always over there in the menu, with current and upcoming major events, and as updates come in, the menu updates with the count. And when you go to happenings, it's a lot easier to find your way about.

I can't imagine anyone doing as good a job as Tim does. He's mutimedia whiz, a natural, honest reporter, and a wordsmith nonpareil. We may not see him post as much as we'd like, but when he does, it's big 'n bad 'n choice.
Thanks Pro!

So bummed I couldn't make it this year, I was really looking forward to it. But, a last minute opportunity came up for a new gig and it was just too good to pass up, so unfortunately, grown up priorities prevailed... Next year again though.

Hermitt
A new gig? Photos man!

redrocker
Glad you posted this Bax, I was definitely amazed at how much great coverage was done, and so quickly. Three cheers Proteus!

@Hermitt, unfortunately (fortunately?), it's my day job

Ah.... THAT kind of gig. Congrats on having some work!

There are some really talented and dedicated people on this forum.
Proteus and the others that worked the NAMM show for us are the best examples. And Baxter, you've made this incredible place for us to share in these talents.

The coverage was really impressive both in size and in fun factor! Great work!

He's beyond human! Couldn't respect him enough.
Fair play to Ric12 too, good man!

SALUTE! To the other guy behind the computer screen. Thanks, Tim and Tim.

Awesome coverage Tim. Thanks also to everyone who helped. As I know what NAMM is like, really the place I would hang out the most would be the Gretsch booth and Fender of course. So thanks for making is almost like we were there.

Great job Tim, glad to see you are keeping busy!

Aww billyD, I didn't know you cared!
Thanks for the thanks, everyone - again, I'm just finding this thread as I plow through the back pages, seeing what I've missed.
I've felt a little isolated when doing the Happenings updates, because it's kinda segregated from the flow of regular forum posts. I understand how its design helps to structure the coverage into a narrative with little "chapters," but without responses to individual updates, I can't tell how it's going over, whether anyone is watching.
Having all the coverage in a single thread, as we improvised it starting with NAMM '08, was chaotic – but at least it seemed like it brought everyone together in one place, and it had a sense of momentum (at least for Joe and I at the show, watching the feedback and responses).
Sometimes I feel a little too MUCH behind the curtain in Happenings, so it's reassuring to read that y'all find and enjoy it.
I/we (Joe, Bax, event organizers) are always trying to figure out how to make coverage more compelling, exciting, richer in content you CARE about, funnerer. Kind of a moving target, because the standards for quantity and quality of media (pics, video, etc) keep getting higher.
Got new ideas, comments on what you'd like more or less of in coverage, let us know.
I keep wishing we had a CREW at events to tell the stories more completely, and more timely. A good photog and a "production assistant" (to process media, evaluate, crop, resize pics, etc) would help - because it's really hard to do a good job at all those things, especially within time constraints that keep the event timely.
But THAT ain't happenin'...so you get my jack-of-all-trades improvised, scattershot, sleep-deprived approach!
It can be grueling, but a labor of love with great rewards: meeting great people, hearing great music, and doing once-in-a-lifetime stuff. It's greatly increased my understanding and appreciation not only of All Things Gretsch, but of the interwoven threads of the music of the last ... 80 years or so!
I'm grateful for the opportunity, feel honored to be part of it, and am always ready for the next adventure.
So, you know. Thanks for having me.
And - thanks to Bax for making it all possible, and his evolving vision for a forum as distinctive as the guitars it enshrines.
