Does Everyone Have All of Their Guitars in the Database?

51

My ex, the Clipper I got from S.Dave and sold to Otter, is still listed as mine.

52

That ole gal is going to start getting a rep,she gets around so much.

53

If the phone is old and the OS hasn't been updated in a long time, it's possible it's not capable of uploading pics.

It's also much clearer how to do so in the guitars form that it is here. That camera icon I have ain't the most intuitive.

Can't you just change it to a button that reads:

"Put yore pitchers in here abouts, and don't use no blurry ones"?

PM me a reminder and I'll get it transferred to Otter this evening. I ain't no stinkin' mind-reader... Can't keep up with you guys that change guitars like underwear.

55

Just updated another. I think I'm all in now.

56

Mine are now minus one. But the new owner doesn't come here (unless he's a stalker/lurker)

58

I’m way behind. I need to carve out some time to shoot individual pics and rectify that iss-yoo.

59

Look up mods people have done, too.

Just bumping 8 good reasons for the registry here. All of mine are in.

60

I need to add some in.

61

Good question.

There are quite a few reasons.

  1. It lets you show off a little.
  2. It lets everyone else enjoy a little guitar porn (especially if you take the time to take a nice photo, like I hope you will)
  3. It can help establish ownership if you should ever have a loss (fingers crossed that never happens)
  4. Over time, it could help establish provenance, so you can ask whoever about those mods on the new one you pick up.
  5. Current new models don't stay current or new forever, and we've pretty consistently seen that recently departed models are often among the least documented.
  6. It give you an opportunity to tell the story of your guitar. As Joe C. is fond of saying, every guitar has a story, and we want to hear yours.
  7. It helps build a true database of Gretsch models that can be sorted and searched by most any criteria.

That's a few reasons that spring up in my mind. There are probably other good reasons, too.

Also, I'm not sure why you put database in quotes, but it is very much a database. Cross-referenced, relational and query-able.

– Baxter

I meant to include this in the bump.

62

To me the best reason is to help others pinpoint exactly which model they have. With so many variations on lots of models, when buying one used you have to go with whatever the seller says, and often they're wrong or don't know. That jet thread up above is a case in point; what's original, what's modded, etc.?

Having as complete a database as possible is a huge service in this regard.

63

I've added two guitars today.

Question to Baxter. How can the owner edit their guitar once it's listed in the data base?

I can answer that. All of your guitars should be listed on your profile page. Click on any of them, which will take you to the page for that guitar.

As long as you are signed in, you should see an edit/update button somewhere on the guitar's page.

Tartan, I was entering my 6122-58, and it stated that this guitar was already registered (with no name for the owner)

I think that the crash screwed this entry up.

I want to add my name, along with mods, and a better pic.

Tell me how and thanks.

67

That does indeed sound crash-related... Usually a remnant of the older entry that got disassociated with your profile.

Either post the serial number here or send it to me in a PM and I can fix it this evening.

69

Yeah, in the crash some guitars got disassociated from their true owner. If that's one of yours, you definitely don't want to try to create a new entry. Instead, just let me or Tartan Phantom know and we'll get the entry moved over to you and then you can edit it.

70

Thanks for the reminder. A couple new ones have followed me home since the crash that I will add.

71

Yup. Both of mine are there.

72

Just wanted to say that I really love that this is an option on this site. Thanks Bax and Rob!

73

Ok, mission accomplished with a little help from Rob.

I've been putting it off. Just a slacker by not getting it from the "to do" list to the "done" list for too long .

Actually was fun getting new pics taken, along with updates to each guitar.

Nothing historical, but my little part of helping document modern Gretsch guitars.

Time to show off a little and inspire others to add their guitars to the database.
