Wood & Wire Don Butler's Astro Jet

It's been like this for weeks, near impossible to paint lacquer in these conditions.
Don painted it but wasn't totally happy so everything needed to be removed.
Leaving the headstock but it needs more clear.
Back.
A little progress, several coats of transparent color and a coat of clear.
Another angle.

Don sent his Astro to me for paint.

  1. Curt; Hi! Thanks for taking this on for me! I had done pore filler and about 3 coats of Cherry Red nitro. I just didn’t like the way it was going! I’ll never use that spray can stuff from Stew-Mac again. I’ll just send my stuff to Curt. Having a professional spray booth and equipment is a major difference in a o.k. job and a great job. Curt has the equipment and certainly knows how to use it. I’ve used spray cans before about 25 years ago and had it turn out nice. But I used Krylon cause I didn’t really know the difference between Nitro and poly. I did do a Strat body with orange leather dye and Homer Formby’s Tung Oil and that was killer. But, everything on this guitar was going in a direction that I wasn’t pleased with. Now it’s in the hands of the Master!! I know about humidity and finishes. However long it take Curt is fine. Thanks!

  2. Thanks Don!

  3. Another week or two Don and you’ll be playing this one.
